Hi everyone!

Poul:

>>>Thank you very much Harry for submitting the MM Dailies text I did a few years back. There are a couple of statements
>>>that Horst Schroeder later requested altered (he *did* realize that he bought the MM rights and other minor stuff).

Does this mean you have a corrected version of this History? It was very intriguing, and a great research! thanks to you, and to Harry for sharing!

>>>It was originally my intention to forward the text to anyone who could include it in a suitable place (e.g. the text on
>>Gottfredson on DCML). Anyone interested can nick it. Main thing (to me) is that the info is there for whoever is >>>interested.

I'd gladly include it on my site, if you wish.

Here's something to add-- when Schroder explains that:
"The response to MM was very good, esp. in the USA. However, this proved to be my undoing. An ad in Comics Journal or Buyer's Guide came to Disney Burbank's attention, and they came down upon me like a ton of bricks."

When I was doing my DEA dissertation (that's right before the PhD) on Barks, I got in touch with Geoffrey Blum (among many great people), who kindly sent me a bunch of photocopies.
He included copies of a Barks interview conducted by Malcolm Willits and Don & Maggie Thompson (Feb '62), reprinted in "The Duckburg Times" # 10-11 (March 27, 1981).
Right after the interview, in the "Disneydom" section (p 20), is are an announcement for the to-be published Uncle Scrooge book by Celestial Arts, and one for "Panels" #2 (Special Carl Barks issue)-- and this...

---------------------
Swedish fan Horst Schroder is going to reprint the complete run of the Mickey Mouse daily comic strips by Floyd Gottfredson from 1930 o 1955 in 26 volumes, in b/w from (mainly) the original English proofs, 104 pages per volume (156 for the 1930, 31 books), stapled-wraparound cover, 8 1/2 * 11 5/8, 3 strips per page (2 per for the 1931 [sic], 31 volumes), print run limited to number pre-ordered-rounded up to nearest 100 (ie 157 ordered, 200 printed), all copies numbered, published in 2 volume sets (early and late years) hopefully one set per month, but possible delays due to proof availability, price depend on print run; of 200-300 $37.50 (1930, 31 $47.50), if 100-200 $47.50 ($54.50 for 1930, 31)-- if less than 100 copies then *no* book, so your order may determine if it si printed, prices include airmail postage, you order 2 sets at a time (4 volumes), automatically extended if not cancelled, may quit after 2 sets and later rejoin-- but little chance of getting prior volumes, first two sets (1930+1947?) and (1931, 1946?) out May/June 1981, last set (hopefully) Autumn 1982. Dealer rates-multiples of 5 copies, 40% off cover+postage, terms arrangable. To order first set send by April 15th send no money, but 4 address stickers with you address, one SASE (international coupon or 40 cents Airmail stamps), state whether want book oblong or upright (turn book sideways to read)-- must abide by majority decision, if don't want books if less than 200 orders, if under 18 need parent signature, notified if too few orders, payment for books upon receipt. Hordst Schroder, [address], Sweden.

Does anybody know someone who could get in touch with Roy Disney and ask him to let Gemstone do a complete Gottfredson Library (dailies & Sundays) (and a Taliaferro Library, while they're at it)?
It may have just been rumor, but I remember reading, when the first Disney Treasures DVD were released, that Roy was the one to thank for the shorts being unedited.
